"yangshuo"

introduction

The region between the Chinese city of Guilin and Yangshuo is known for its very impressive karst stone mountains often depicted on Chinese calendars. The area is one of Chinese finest and not entirely surprising, it is on the back of the 20Y Chinese banknote. Where previously only backpackers visited Yangshuo, it is now big crowds of tourists making a cruise on the river "Li" from the big city of Guilin to the not so small and quiet Yangshuo (anymore). Often you can see local cormorant fishermen in the river who now want a reward for a picture. Yangshuo itself is not that special, the area around it the more. The best you can visit on a rented bicycle. The region has a subtropical climate, with pleasant temperatures throughout the year.

highlights

Yangshuo:

Yangshuo became also in China to be very famous. Before that is was just a very small Chinese quite vilage. The city has a very busy main street, but also a very nice car-free shopping street (West Street). There are many restaurants, internet cafes with cozy terraces, shops and boutiques. At the quay it is noisy with souvenir stalls and cormorant fishermen who would like to be photographed here (for money ofcourse). From here you can take a boat trip on the "Li" river. Yangshuo also has a city park that serves as a meeting place for locals (especially the older residents) who entertain themselves there with a card game or just for a chat. You can also find local women in the center who can invite you for a photo in traditional costume.

On one of the main roads of the tiny Yangshao, Pantao Lu, this hostel is next to countless other options. It is convenient to the bus station and about 600 meters from most eateries. The hostel has a dormitory as well as singles, doubles and triples. You also have the option to take a room with or without your own toilet / shower.

Perhaps the nicest, cheapest, most convenient and sensible thing is to rent a bike when you are in Yangshuo. Costs are approximately Y10 per day and you can rent them anywhere (including probably at your hostel).
